Baptism & Communion

Communion

At Walnut Hill we typically receive the Lord’s supper together on the first Sunday morning of each month and on other appropriate occasions such as Thanksgiving, Maundy Thursday and Christmas or New Years eve services. We believe our Lord ordained the taking of communion as a way of keeping the truths that the Lord’s Supper embody before us. We practice open Communion, meaning that one must not be a member of Walnut Hill to participate with us, but must be a Christian. We believe people are Christians by virtue of their living faith in God through Jesus Christ as evidenced by the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.

Baptism

At Walnut Hill we believe that all Christians should be baptized, as per the teaching of our Lord in Matthew 28:18-20, after they have placed their faith in God through Jesus Christ and received the gift of the Holy Spirit. We believe baptism is an initiatory rite for these new disciples (followers of Christ) that reinforce foundational truths of the Christian faith. It is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit that seals us, or marks us as belonging to God. It is water baptism that is the outward expression of that inner, indwelling and divine reality. We baptize people publicly by immersion either here at the church or at a local lake or river. Because baptism is a powerful and vivid symbol of spiritual cleansing, death and resurrection we strongly prefer full immersion as the very best mode of water baptism. Immersion is also the only biblical model we see in the New Testament.

Handbell Choir

WHBC has a multi-aged handbell choir. Ringers from middle school through older adults form the choir. Our desire is to lead the congregation in reflective worship of our LORD. Musical selections vary from spirituals, gospel, hymns, and contemporary praise & worship music.

Ringers commit to attending weekly 1 1⁄2 hour rehearsals during the school year. The choir plays approximately 1 Sunday per month for both Sunday morning services, with ringers attending the entire service of one. Attire must meet the current dress code policy. Ringers must be able to read music and have a teachable spirit with the desire to work together like a body. By being a part of the choir, readers are making a public statement that they believe on the LORD JESUS CHRIST and are saved.

Please contact the church office to obtain the director’s contact information.
